Build Question, Again...
I preordered Guild Wars just this last saturday, and I'm trying to decide what kind of build I should have. I want to avoid magical-based stuff as most as possible because I've been playing magic based jobs in other MMORPG's for the past two years and, well, I'd like a change. I was leaning towards maybe a warrior/ranger who could both hold their own in close and long range combat or maybe a warrior/monk suited more towards close quarters combat. What are the pros and cons of some popular physical based builds, and which one would you recommend a newbie going with?

See, both Monk and Ranger have magical spells. In fact the Warrior too has skills. Did you meant you do not want to be a ranged caster? If yes, I suppose you could try a warrior/monk (paladin) as it is pretty popular (I feel each time I played with a random party I had a warrior/monk.

Actually on the last beta I had fun with a warrior mesmer. You still get into the fray of things, but on the trip over you can still do some decent damage, along with some nice healing spell that go along with it. The fact you just ordered it I guess you haven???t tried it yet. If you got the pre-order package you'll have two more beta weekends events (BWE) to see what you like as there will be a wipe before the true launch. It would also help to read about some of the builds that are posted on the main page to see if anything peaks your interest. Happy gaming Last edited by March Hare; Mar 01, 2005 at 10:02 AM // 10:02.. |

My beginning Build
This last BWE was the first time I really got to spend an enormous amount of time on the game. For the entire weekend I worked on a Warrior/Elementalist build. It was fun. I really can't remember the skills I used but I did have an axe - axe mastery - (had that built decently) and had some good hits on my Strength as well. The only place I faltered was with my Elementalist magic. I think I would have done pretty good had I focused on one element. I didn't. Go figure, I'm still in the beginning stages. I was using both air and fire and debating on which would be a better buffer for me. The way I had my build and at the pace things were going I felt fire was mainframe for me.
I used Inferno, Fire Storm, Sever Artery and the attribute with my axe that allows me to interrupt spells being cast on others as I hit them! My best area was interrupting spells, fire storm (for defense plus added damage while fighting), sever artery and continued that cycle. I didn't have any {Elite} attribute yet but I'm going to be working on that in the following BWE. Hope this was somewhat useful since I'm nowhere near as crafty and skillful as the Guru Gods in here that can pin everything down and name it and give ya each stat! Note: I'm not bad mouthing any of you! I think its awesome that you can do that... I just wish I could but I went as indepth as I could. |
